Late Summer Sunflower Garden

This year, with all the abnormal heatwaves and long drought, our sunflowers were delayed. We didnt get them into the ground until July after growing as seedlings for many months. Now that it's august, we have about xx Pike's Peak, King Kong, Ruby Red, Jerusalem Gold Hybrid growing in our flower bed. None have bloomed. I hope the later summer rains we've finally gotten will jump start them.

Here, we still have a long season ahead of us. These flowers may continue growing until late October. If they can outlive whatever pest I have noticed is eating the leaves rapidly. And I will still continue to plant more of the seedlings for additional varieties we have started.

The goal being a full bed of varying height and color sunflowers. As a painter, this would be excellent subject matter for late summer artworks. I still have hope that we'll see some awesome blooms.
